Edinburgh, Day 1

I know, I was a bit slow and didn't post anything yesterday.  Let's just blame it on the fact that I'm still recovering from Barcelona.  The conference ended beautifully and the presentations were a great success.  (I'll post a separate entry later to show off the Night at the Museum party I designed)

So, first day in Edinburgh.... Well really it was day 1.5 as I got in Thursday night around 11PM.  Our hotel is super cute.  Perfectly appointed both in the room and in the downstairs whisky bar.  It is however, three very long flights of stairs up.

So Day 1 I was mostly on my own.  I headed down to breakfast before it was time to meet E at the train station.  R wasn't due to arrive until around 5.

Off I went and for some unknown reason, I was determined to climb the Scott Monument.  Which is exactly what it sounds like.  A massive monument to Sir Walter Scott.  If the tours are to be believed, it's the largest monument to writer in the world.

So yes, I decided to climb it.  287 steps up to the very top.  Four different stops along the way.  At the very top, the steps became so narrow, I had to turn sideways to get through.  Breathless and somewhat exhausted, I stepped out to beautiful views of the city.

As you can see, I was clearly lucky with the weather once again.  It's been lovely here so far.  Absolutely perfect.  E arrived and we wandered and drank some beer.  Then we decided to ride the tour buses. I love them, no matter how cheesy they are.

All too soon, it was time for E to head off.  I returned to the hotel just in time for R to arrive.  After just a bit, we headed back out to grab some food and our first drink together in Scotland.  Then it was time for bed.  We managed a full day on day 2.  I however, am running a day behind on the blog, so I'll do my best to get today's post up ASAP tomorrow.  However, for tonight, it must be goodnight.
